Monte Vista running back Richie Storlee broke away on a 20-yard rampage to the end zone for the Mustangs first score against San Leandro on Friday night in first round of the NCS 4-A playoffs, and he was just getting his feet wet. Storlee put the Pirate defenders to the test all night as Monte Vista built a 35-0 lead and held off San Leandro for a 35-13 win at Burrell Field. Beginning this week, shoppers can access the internet for free from anywhere in the mall, which Bayfair hopes will entice customers to spend more time in the shopping center and bring in more foot traffic. …. A major manufacturer of springs and vehicle components is leaving San Leandro for the Central Valley because their employees can no longer afford to live close to the plant. The Betts Spring Company has operated in San Leandro since the 1970s and will soon move their corporate office and manufacturing operations from Williams Street to Fresno where the vehicle component and truck part facility is already located. …. Have you ever been driving down East 14th or Davis Street and wondered who fixes the potholes? Kris Mally and his crew start at 6:30 a.m. to repair the potholes and sidewalks in San Leandro. Another crew of three paint the lines, mark the curbs in red, and work with the sign crew. Mally, the street operations supervisor, has worked for the City of San Leandro for 32 years. “Potholes always seem to rear their heads more in the wintertime,” Mally says. …. Read more
