Considering the fabulous reviews, Led Zeppelin’s reunion last week in London was the rock event of the new millenium…to date, at least. A few intriguing stats: there were millions of requests for the 18,000 tickets, the highest known scalped price for a pair went for $168,000, and drummer Jason Bonham was approximately 10 years older than his father (John) when he died in 1980, sending Zeppelin into retirement. …. The Arroyo High boys soccer team went into last Thursday’s match with Moreau Catholic looking for their first league win, and this time the Dons finally opened the door. It took a while. Nobody scored in the first half. But late in the game, Arroyo forward Mario Gonzalez took a pass from Jason Linter and drove the ball into the net. ….Read more

The fire fighters are having a fundraiser for Craig Alaniz on Sunday at Station 9 on Estudillo Avenue. Alaniz is a 2002 graduate of San Leandro High and was a s t a r t i n g pitcher on the Pirates baseball team as well as the Washington Manor Rangers. He was diagnosed with brain cancer in August and has undergone treatment at Stanford Hospital. …. Read more

Last month, over 100 of the city’s homeless people enjoying a Thanksgiving meal at the San Leandro Community Church. One of the men in photo, Shawn Redding, died less than a week later. Redding, 32, was found dead in the San Leandro Creek on Nov. 27. He had lived in San Leandro since his family moved from Oakland when he was just five and was a 1994 graduate of San Leandro High. ….
