There’s nothing wrong with chains. Most of San Leandro restaurants suck and are overpriced because there’s no chain compeititon. Take Paradiso for instance–same food as Macoroni Grill at twice the price. Emil’s isn’t as good as Mimi’s cafe; and they’re about 1.5x more. San Leandro is not in the position to be turning stores away because they are chains–downtown is full of junk stores, thrift shops and has a few hundred beauty shops catering to the African American female. Look at towns like Chico and San Luis that have both local stores and chains downtown–these downtowns are THRIVING!!! Stop the social engineering and face realty–and give people what they want– they’re already driving out to Dublin and Union City to get them–and taking away sales tax revenues that would potentially go to San Leandro.
