A man died in a house fire last weekend, in one of two fires that gutted San Leandro homes in the past week.
Shortly before 8 o’clock Saturday evening, neighbors called 911 to report that a home on the 700 block of Floresta Boulevard was in flames.

With a dry summer on the horizon, the East Bay Municipal Utilities District will soon vote on the possibility of mandatory water rationing.
Under EBMUD’s shortage response plan, if the projections for this spring’s runoff is short of 450,000 acre feet of water, the board of directors can declare emergency drought restrictions and mandatory rationing for its customers. …. More

Mel Medeiros was only elected to the San Lorenzo Village Homes Association board a couple of months ago, but he can’t wait to get started making improvements to the city he has lived in his whole life.
Medeiros was victorious in the winter SLZVHA election, defeating incumbent Jim Sherman, who had served on the board for 20 years. Medeiros admits his first few weeks were kind of rocky as his fellow board members adjusted to a new face. …. More
